President Joe Biden said he wanted to meet with congressional leaders of both parties in order to discuss areas where they can cooperate following Tuesday’s midterm elections.

Biden held a press conference Wednesday afternoon after Democrats staved off massive losses in the House and are on the verge of maintaining their one-vote majority in the Senate, noting that he was scheduled to speak with House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) later Wednesday evening.

BIDEN SPENDS ELECTION NIGHT PHONING WINNING DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES

The president told reporters he will invite Republicans and Democrats to the White House after he returns from a weeklong trip overseas on Nov. 16. Biden specifically addressed inflation putting pressure on families and stated his hope to continue the bipartisan effort to aid Ukraine in its fight against Russia.

He did, however, and refused to compromise on proposals to cut funding for Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, new prescription drug pricing stipulations included in the Inflation Reduction Act, or any attempts to pass federal abortion bans.

“Regardless of what the final tally of these elections show, and there’s still some counting going on, I’m prepared to work with my Republican colleagues. The American people made clear, I think, that they expect Republicans be prepared to work with me as well,” Biden stated. “But I’m ready to compromise with the Republicans where it makes sense on many other issues, and always put the needs and interests of the American people first.”
