The Washington Examiner’s Sarah Westwood predicted that Ronna McDaniel will remain the Republican National Committee chairwoman despite big endorsements for her opponent.

McDaniel has served as RNC chairwoman since 2016 but is currently up for election against Harmeet Dhillon, who was recently endorsed by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), among others. Elections are set for Friday, and the position will last through the 2024 elections.

“I think there is a reason why more credible challengers didn’t jump into the race against McDaniel,” Westwood postured during a Fox News at Night segment Friday. “I think that’s because McDaniel does still have a really strong hold on members of the RNC.”

Westwood described the race as having the “same energy” as the race for speaker of the House that took place earlier this month, as there wasn’t a serious challenger to Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for that seat either. McDaniels, like McCarthy, still appears to be the “clear favorite,” according to Westwood.

The RNC chairwoman will clearly have her work cut out for her, as President Joe Biden has publicly displayed his disdain for what he deems “extreme MAGA Republicans” or those in the GOP that sided with former President Donald Trump. McDaniel, for her part, was endorsed by Trump in 2016, while Dhillon is a lawyer that has previously advised Trump.

“This time, the boogeyman is House Republicans,” Westwood said of Biden’s latest political strategy.

Some members have criticized McDaniel for her close relationship with former President Donald Trump, especially as some within the party appear to want to distance themselves from his influence in the 2024 election cycle.
