Social Security update: Direct $914 SSI payment arriving in just five days for millions

The month of February is almost here, and with it comes the monthly payment that Supplemental Security Income recipients will receive.
The money from this SSI payment, which will be sent to recipients on Feb. 1, will allow people to afford basic everyday items and goods such as food and shelter. These payments from the Social Security Administration are intended to help elderly, blind, and disabled people who have little or no income of their own, according to the SSA.

Additionally, couples who are eligible for SSI will receive their regular payments of $1,371 on the same day, while essential persons, or those who live with people receiving SSI and give them necessary care, will receive payments of $458.
Payments to SSI recipients this year will be slightly higher than the payments issued in 2022 due to a cost-of-living adjustment made by the SSA. The payment amount issued to recipients in 2022 was $841. This year’s payment is 8.7% higher to reflect the adjustment.
The SSA typically gives its SSI payment to recipients on the first of the month, with a total of 12 payments being issued by the administration every year. However, when the first day of a month occurs on a weekend or holiday, the payments for that day are given on the last business day of the previous month.

The month of January served as one of the months when recipients did not receive any payments due to receiving two payments the previous month, one on Dec. 1 and the second on Dec. 30, with the latter payment serving as this month’s SSI payment.
This year, the SSA will issue double payments to recipients in March, June, September, and December because the first day of the following month will either be on a weekend or holiday, according to the SSA’s 2023 schedule.
