Police revealed on Tuesday that San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Charles Omenihu was arrested on charges of domestic violence on Monday afternoon.

The arrest came days before the 49ers were set to compete in the NFC championship against the Philadelphia Eagles.

“The survivor is an adult female and called to report that her boyfriend, Charles Omenihu, pushed her to the ground during an argument,” the San Jose Police Department said in a press release.

Police said that Omenihu gave a statement and was cooperative with officers.

An emergency protective restraining order was sought and obtained by the victim when police arrived on the scene, and officers served it to Omenihu immediately.

The victim did not have visible injuries, according to the release, but she complained of pain in her arm. She further declined medical attention. Based on her statement to the police, Omenihu was arrested and charged with California Penal Code Section 243(e)(1), which is misdemeanor domestic violence.

The possible sentences for this type of offense are up to a year in jail, a fine of no more than $2,000, and probation.

Omenihu was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail but has since posted bail and been released.
