House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is reportedly planning on visiting Taiwan later this year, a year after his predecessor made a similar trip to the island nation.
The proposed trip is still in the early phases of planning, and the Biden administration is reportedly planning for the logistics of such a trip, according to a report from Punchbowl News.

The McCarthy trip is expected to take place in spring, according to the report, with the Biden administration looking to be more proactive than with planning around Pelosi’s 2022 trip.
McCarthy would become the second speaker of the house in under a year to visit the democratic country after Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan in August 2022. She became the most senior official to visit the country since then-House Speaker Newt Gingrich visited in 1997.
Republicans applauded Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan, but some, including McCarthy, were vocal about their displeasure with the trip only featuring Democratic lawmakers.
