Lawrence Jones made his debut as the youngest black solo host of a cable news program last January with his Saturday night Fox News show, Lawrence Jones Cross Country.

In his first year at the helm of the show, Jones, a Texas native, said he has traveled to nearly every state and seen how people are afraid to share their points of view.

“No one wants to say anything offensive, or maybe appear to be offensive,” Jones told the Dallas Morning News. “So I think I’ve sort of become the safe space of people from all different political persuasions that they just open up and talk to me about things. I will say people are on edge, people are a little frayed.”

Jones joined Fox News in 2018. He has worked as a guest host, enterprise reporter for Fox & Friendsand contributor on Hannity with man-on-the-street-style interview segments.

“I come from humble beginnings,” Jones added. “I thought I wanted to be in elected office one day, and now I really despise politicians. I get to interview them. And so, you know, I love my job. I guess, the one thing that has not changed is my love for people. And I think that really helped me a lot.”

As he began his show last year, Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott called Jones an “impact player.”

“His perspective has added depth to our programming while resonating with the audience,” Scott said.

Jones’s show averages around 1 million viewers each Saturday night.

“Don’t expect to see politicians have free rein to recite talking points,” Jones said as he began his show. “This will not be that kind of show. I will be challenging elected officials, regardless of their party, because that’s what viewers and voters expect during these tough times for the country. I’m not only a Christian, but I’m a preacher’s kid, too. Christ is my ultimate compass, even though I fall short sometimes.”
