A college football player who rose to meme fame in a Popeyes now has a sponsorship deal with the restaurant.

Lake Erie College offensive lineman Dieunerst Collin was an internet sensation at only 9 years old when a stranger filmed him inside the fast food restaurant and posted it on the social media platform Vine. The confused look Collin shot back at the stranger was enough to spawn thousands of memes since then, outlasting the platform he earned his fame from.

“This is where our story started,” Collin narrates a video with the viral image of him at Popeyes in the background. “The moment that made us a meme. We didn’t ask for it. We didn’t understand it. But don’t worry, little man, we didn’t let it stop us. Because the more we grew, the tougher we got. We learned to lean in. We turned the attention into motivation and the motivation into championships. This is where our story started, and now, it’s where a new one begins.”

Collin openly solicited Popeyes, attempting to go viral again on his Instagram and Twitter in order to “talk business” with the chain. His plea on Instagram received over 64,000 likes.

“Proud to welcome [Collin] to the fam,” Popeyes captioned an Instagram photo last week announcing the sponsorship deal with Collin, who the account referred to as a “hometown hero.”
