Resurfaced campaign video from then-2020 presidential contender Joe Biden appears to illustrate the state of his garage’s security near where classified documents were recently unearthed.

“By the way, my Corvette’s in a locked garage. Okay, so it’s not like they’re sitting on the street,” Biden told reporters last week. “People know, I take classified documents and classified material seriously. I also said we’re cooperating fully and completely with the Justice Department’s review.”

Biden showed off a garage in a 2020 “Joe Biden Gets Vetted” campaign video in which he touted his Corvette. Multiple boxes can be seen in the background of his garage in the video, though it is not clear if those boxes contained the stash of documents with classification markings or if the garage is the same one where the documents were discovered.

“I love this car. Nothing but incredible memories. Every time I get in it, I think of my dad and Beau,” he added, referencing his eldest son who died of cancer in 2015.

Other photos of Biden’s prized Corvette from his son Hunter’s laptop showed the scandal-plagued first son taking the hot rod out for a spin with several young women. The Biden for President Flickr page also had an image titled, “Behind the Scenes of Joe Biden’s 1967 Corvette Stingray — Wilmington, DE — July 16, 2020” showing a smiling Biden near his Corvette in front of his garage.

Biden also took his Corvette out for a spin in an October 2016 appearance on Jay Leno’s Garage and during an October 2022 episode.

On Nov. 2, 2022, one of Biden’s lawyers flagged an envelope with about 10 classified documents at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement, a foreign policy think tank. Following the discovery, Biden’s team cooperated with the Justice Department and embarked on a sweep of his residences for any lingering material.

Then on Dec. 20, his team informed the Justice Department that a second batch of material was found in his Wilmington, Delaware, garage. Another tranche of classified documents was later discovered elsewhere in Wilmington last week.

So far, there have reportedly been roughly two dozen classified documents found, some of which contained top secret material and ones marked for “sensitive compartmented information.” Uncovered files also featured intelligence on Iran, Ukraine, and the United Kingdom, according to CNN. The documents are believed to stem from 2013 to 2016, while he was vice president.

Last week amid bombshell public revelations of the classified document discovery, Attorney General Merrick Garland announced the appointment of U.S. Attorney Robert Hur as special counsel to investigate the matter. Vice presidents are expected to turn over classified material and other key records at the end of presidential administrations.

Biden has been adamant that he is fully cooperating with investigators.
