Gaetz says Biden classified document discoveries fueled by Democrats

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) suggested Democrats are behind the recent revelations that President Joe Biden had his own stash of classified documents in his personal office at a think tank and at one of his homes.
In an interview with Fox News on Wednesday, Gaetz said the controversy surrounding Biden’s classified documents might be fueled by Democrats who are trying to “take out” Biden and stop him from launching a reelection bid in 2024.

“I don’t know that that’s the case, but I don’t know that it’s not,” Gaetz said. “But just as Joe Biden is hardening the cement around his decision to run for president again, they start looking for what classified documents might have been tucked away eight years ago.”
Gaetz’s comments come as Biden has been under intense scrutiny after it was reported earlier this month that multiple sets of classified documents were found at his private office at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement and his personal residence in Wilmington, Delaware. All of the documents that were found were stored away when Biden was vice president.
Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Robert Hur as special counsel to investigate the documents, giving him the authority to analyze the materials extensively and prosecute any wrongdoing if necessary.
“There’s an element of this where it’s Joe Biden’s lawyer who turns this information over, it’s Joe Biden’s own Justice Department that’s appointed a special counsel to investigate him,” Gaetz said. “Maybe the Democrats have realized that Joe Biden is not useful to them anymore, and they just assume [let’s] toss him out and get a younger crop of candidates engaged in the next presidential race.”
It’s not yet clear what classified information was included in the materials that were recovered. Some of the documents obtained from Biden’s think tank office reportedly include intelligence and briefing materials on “topics including Ukraine, Iran, and the United Kingdom,” according to CNN — prompting some critics to accuse Biden of jeopardizing national security.

“What if the documents relate to our economy? What if Joe Biden was hustling information to his CCP (Chinese Communist Party) funders at the Biden Center for UPenn, and that gave China economic advantage over Americans?” Gaetz said, referring to a 2021 report that found the University of Pennsylvania received millions of dollars in donations from unnamed Chinese donors. “I don’t know because I don’t know what the documents pertain to, but documents in and of themselves don’t seem to have an obvious connection to the quality of life of my constituents, in the absence of understanding their content and context.”
Biden has maintained that he does not know what information is contained within the documents, noting he was “surprised” to learn of their discovery.
