Media personalities Megyn Kelly and Glenn Greenwald mocked CNN’s plans to hire a comedian to save its prime-time lineup.

“There’s a reason instead of just thinking about, what are they doing that works? Like, maybe we could be ripping on both sides like Jay Leno used to do, right?” Kelly said on her SiriusXM The Megyn Kelly Show on Tuesday. “Nope, they don’t want to do that. They’re going to double down on their partisanship, or they’re going to both double down on their partisanship, and they’re going to try to call it comedy like they do with Jon Stewart.”

Earlier this week, CNN announced it was considering the idea of hiring a comedian to fill the 9 p.m. vacancy that was once filled by Chris Cuomo. The network is looking to prime-time and late-night talk show hosts.

“The other possibility, Glenn, is they may — they’ve discussed turning the 9 to 12 midnight hours into a series of shows modeled, brace yourself, like a variety program with shows within shows for different journalists,” Kelly continued amid laughing. “I guess we’re going to get the Anderson Cooper, Wolf Blitzer, Don Lemon Variety Hour? Cause none of those people worked or is working right now as journalists. But we think if we — what if they sing and dance? People are going to watch.”

Greenwald, who hosts Rumble’s System Update show, noted the network’s failing streaming venture of CNN+, which was shut down one month after its launch.

“These are not geniuses running CNN, and I think their problem is, in reality, they’re trying to fix what is actually just a completely broken ship,” Greenwald said. “It’s sinking. And it’s the proverbial moving of deck chairs around as it does.”

Greenwald added that another less viable option included CNN’s choosing to do just comedy and being void of political commentary.

“But we don’t accept that anymore in our culture. Like every — you can’t watch a sports network without being battered over the head with political ideology and dogma. Everything has become politicized. Everything, you know, there is no such thing any longer as cultural products that unite all Americans that are devoid of political content,” Greenwald said.

Kelly criticized CNN’s overall idea, saying it does the exact opposite of what it is trying to do.

“It would be amazing if, in this era where they think they’re appeasing Republicans and trying to get Republican viewers and independent viewers to come back to them by [hiring some] Republican contributors, you know,” Kelly said, “that then they give two hours of their prime time to Jon Stewart.”

“OK, see how that works out with the people you’re trying to win back. OK, you’ve been warned. I’ve gone on record,” she added in mockery. “See how that works out? It’s not going to go very well.”

Last year, Kelly blasted CNN for pushing away viewers, saying the network had “telegraphed their hatred, not just for Trump but the right half of the country.”
