Someone attempted to haul an 84 mm caliber weapon on a flight from Texas, the Transportation Security Agency revealed Monday.

TSA officials flagged the powerful weapon in outbound, undeclared luggage at the San Antonio International Airport and later identified its owner before relaying the matter to the local police department.

The owner of the weapon, who has not been publicly identified, undertook steps to “demilitarize” the weapon believed to have anti-tank level firepower and showed officials paperwork to prove it, Fox News reported. Although explosive specialists ultimately corroborate the owner’s claims, TSA shot down the prospect of the weapon traveling aboard the plane.

San Antonio Police began investigating the matter, and so far no charges have been issued. The owner handed the item off to a family member and later rebooked his flight, according to the report.

The owner explained that the weapon was an 84 mm Carl-Gustaf M4 recoilless rifle for a demo at the SHOT show firearm exhibit in Las Vegas, Nevada, that began Tuesday. It is not immediately clear if the owner managed to find other means of transporting the weapon to Las Vegas.

On Twitter, TSA used the rare finding to remind airline passengers of its rules for transporting ammunition and firearms. Such weapons must be declared when checking in at ticket counters, as well as being secured and unloaded in hard suitcases.

Last year, the agency confiscated a record number of firearms from passengers who flouted the rules by not unloading their weapons or securing them properly. The Washington Examiner contacted TSA for additional information.
