The Washington Examiner’s Kaylee McGhee White revealed that she thinks Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) should challenge former President Donald Trump, who is expected to announce his candidacy Tuesday, for the GOP nomination in 2024.
“I think he should,” she said on Fox Business on Thursday. “If I’m Ron DeSantis, I’m definitely considering it. His victory was remarkable.”
“What Ron DeSantis was able to do during COVID was build a loyalty among voters,” she explained. “He was able to flip counties like Miami-Dade that has voted blue for years, and it is because he instilled loyalty in them.”
“Trump did some great things while he was in office,” White acknowledged. “But how many elections do we have to lose before we realize that he is dragging the party down?”
She further called Tuesday’s midterm elections a “rebuke of the candidates that he chose and endorsed.”
Following the performance of Trump-endorsed Republicans, which failed to live up to what the polls predicted, support for a 2024 presidential run for DeSantis has increased seemingly overnight. Conversely, support for Trump to run has seemed to plummet.
