Democrats want Trump to be the GOP nominee — ask yourself why

Former President Donald Trump has begun his reelection campaign. Democrats and their media allies have already begun cheering on his nomination because they aren’t scared of Trump. They are scared of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Among the Democrats and independents openly rooting for Trump to win the GOP nomination are former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, who made his 2021 campaign for the office all about Trump, and socialist Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders. Sanders said that Trump’s candidacy is “probably a good thing” for people who want “to see that no Republican is elected to the White House.” McAuliffe was blunter: “I think we would all like Donald Trump to run again.”

THE MEDIA ARE DESPERATE TO PREVENT A PRESIDENT DESANTIS

This isn’t a surprise. Democrats were openly boosting pro-Trump conspiracy theorists in GOP primaries for House, Senate, and gubernatorial races across the country this year, no matter how much of a “threat to democracy” they claimed Trump and election-deniers were. The strategy worked. Trump may have padded his endorsement record with easy races, but nearly all of his chosen candidates were losers in every important swing-state race during the midterm elections.

Of course, if Democrats are going to go all-in on Trump over DeSantis, establishment media will surely follow. “Anti-Trump” grifter and former radio host Joe Walsh has already begun hyping up Trump’s absurd argument that he is an “outsider.” The Lincoln Project is already labeling DeSantis as a “more polished” version of Trump. The New York Times is already flooding the zone with Trump’s comments again.

New York magazine’s Jonathan Chait, who declared in 2016 that liberals should support a Trump nomination, gave away the strategy in March: “Just imagine what a Trumpified party no longer led by an erratic, deeply unpopular cable-news binge-watcher would be capable of,” Chait wrote. His piece argued that DeSantis “may be more MAGA than the MAGA king himself.”

The fact is that DeSantis is a more focused and more effective conservative, and that is what they are scared of.

Democrats would rather run against Trump than DeSantis. That should tell you everything you need to know. Trump dragged down GOP candidates in 2016, 2018, 2020, 2021 (in Georgia), and now 2022. He is the biggest asset Democrats have. DeSantis, fresh off of making Florida as red as California is blue, is the biggest threat to their continued dominance.

The establishment media don’t really care about Trump’s election denialism or the “insurrection” he “fomented” on Jan. 6, 2021. They aren’t bothered by threats to democracy. And they are showing it now. They are far less afraid of Trump than they are of DeSantis. Ask yourself why.
