Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has been given a spot on House committees in the 118th Congress after the Republican firebrand became a vocal backer of Rep. Kevin McCarthy‘s (R-CA) bid for the House speaker position.
The House GOP Steering Committee placed Greene on the House Homeland Security Committee, which will play a crucial role in conducting oversight over the Biden administration’s border policies. The rosters for the committees, however, need to be approved by the entire House GOP conference.

The House voted to remove Greene from her committees in February 2021, with 11 Republicans joining Democrats in booting her from her panels when a slew of controversial social media posts emerged from before she was in Congress, including antisemitic comments, accusations that the shooting in Parkland, Florida, was a false flag, and remarks propagating the QAnon conspiracy theory.
McCarthy vowed to place her back on her committees and remove Democrats who have made inflammatory comments prior to Republicans taking back the majority.

In addition to Greene, Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) will be seated on the House Natural Resources Committee, a panel he previously served on.
Gosar was censured and removed from his committees in November 2021 after posting a controversial anime video depicting violence against progressive Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). Gosar has also come under fire in the past for speaking at a convention with white nationalist ties. Greene had also appeared as a speaker at the event in recent years.
