University of Georgia football player and staff member killed in car crash

Two people associated with the University of Georgia were killed in a car crash Sunday that injured two others.

Athens-Clarke County police identified the deceased as offensive lineman Devin Willock, 20, and Georgia football recruiter Chandler LeCroy, 24. LeCroy was driving the Ford Expedition when it crashed. He died after being transported to a nearby hospital. Willock was pronounced dead on the scene.

The two others injured were a 21-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman who were also a part of the football program. Both were seriously injured but are in stable condition, according to UGA Athletics.

“The entire Georgia family is devastated by the tragic loss of football student-athlete Devin Willock and football staff member Chandler LeCroy,” a statement from the university read. “Devin and Chandler were two special people who meant so much to the University of Georgia, our football program and our athletic department. We ask that everyone keep their families in your prayers during this very difficult time.”

University personnel will be providing mental health support for grieving staff and student-athletes.

Willock was a sophomore, fresh off of his team’s National Championship win, which was celebrated with a parade Saturday.
