White House deflects national security concerns of Biden’s classified documents disclosure

The White House downplayed national security concerns arising from the discovery of classified documents from President Joe Biden‘s tenure in former President Barack Obama’s administration.
“That would be a question for the Justice Department,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters Thursday. “The president has spoken to how seriously he takes the handling of classified documents.”
Kirby added he was not aware of other countries expressing their concerns about the way the United States has managed classified material.
The White House has pledged to cooperate with special counsel Robert Hur, whom Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Thursday to investigate the classified records found in Biden’s possession.
“We have cooperated closely with the Justice Department throughout its review, and we will continue that cooperation with the Special Counsel,” Richard Sauber, Biden’s lawyer, wrote. “We are confident that a thorough review will show that these documents were inadvertently misplaced, and the President and his lawyers acted promptly upon discovery of this mistake.”
The White House confirmed earlier Thursday that a second batch of classified information was found at Biden’s house in Wilmington, Delaware, last month, with one more document located this week. The first round was found last November at the Washington, D.C., office of his think tank, the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement.

“My lawyer has reviewed other places where documents from my time as vice president were stored, and they finished the review last night,” Biden told reporters Thursday. “They discovered a small number of documents of classified marketing and storage areas and file cabinets in my home, in my personal library.”
“The Department of Justice was immediately notified, and the lawyers arranged for the Department of Justice to take possession of the document,” he said. “So you’re going to see — we’re going to see all this unfold.”
