Hillis is “on the road to recovery,” according to singer and actress Angela Cole, following his hospitalization last week after “saving his children from drowning in the ocean” near Pensacola, Florida. Cole posted an update on Hillis’s condition on Instagram Thursday, calling it “a good day” for his recovery.

“A hero. So proud of this man and so incredibly grateful for family and this incredible hospital,” Cole captioned a photo of the two prior to the accident. “Please continue to pray for he’s still got a ways ahead of him, but thank you for all of your prayers and love and support thus far. It truly makes all the difference.”

The retired running back is receiving treatment in an intensive care unit due to problems with his kidneys and lungs according to his uncle Greg Hillis. The children he saved from drowning are reportedly safe and well.
