‘Lord of the Dance’ Michael Flatley battling aggressive form of cancer

Michael Flatley, creator of the popular Riverdance Irish dancing touring show, is fighting for his life.

Flatley, 64, is best known as the “Lord of the Dance” after creating the production of that name in 1996 following his departure from Riverdance two years prior.

“Dear friends, we have something personal to share, Michael Flatley has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. He has undergone surgery and is in the care of an excellent team of doctors. No further comments will be made at this time. We ask only for your prayers and well wishes. Thank you,” a post on his Facebook page read.

Flatley, who was born in Chicago, is also known for the Irish dance shows Feet of Flames and Celtic Tiger Live. He was also listed in the Guinness Book of World Records in 1989 and 1998 for his quick dance moves.
