Why aren’t pro-life Republicans speaking at the National March for Life?

For years, many pro-life Republican politicians pushed to end the evil that is abortion and advocated the Supreme Court overturn Roe v. Wade. Decades of hard work finally yielded positive outcomes as the highest court in the land ruled in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that abortion is not a constitutionally protected right. It was a victory decades in the making.
But now, after the most significant judicial win in the history of the pro-life movement, on the 50th anniversary of the first march, pro-life Republican politicians are seemingly nowhere to be found at the annual National March for Life scheduled for Jan. 20 in the nation’s capital. This shouldn’t be.
The National March for Life, the largest event to protect the lives of the unborn in the country, and arguably the world, has previously had former President Donald Trump and former Vice President Mike Pence as speakers at the event. This year’s speakers were announced in a press release on Jan. 5.
“We are overjoyed to welcome these inspiring leaders at this year’s 50th March for Life, the first in our post-Roe nation,” said Jeanne Mancini, president of March for Life Education and Defense Fund. “With Roe now behind us, we are empowered to save countless innocent American lives by continuing to advocate for commonsense protections at the state and federal level, educating Americans on the intrinsic dignity of all human life. This year will be a somber reminder of the millions of lives lost to abortion in the past 50 years, but also a celebration of how far we have come and where we as a movement need to focus our effort as we enter this new era in our quest to protect life.”
Disappointingly, none of them included any congressional Republicans. This isn’t to diminish the announced speakers in any way. It’s a fantastic lineup with very brilliant, passionate, dedicated warriors who have fought long and hard to end the evil that is abortion. However, more elected officials, the people that just spent 15 rounds voting for a House speaker, the people responsible for spending billions of dollars of taxpayer money on matters that have nothing to do with benefiting Americans, the people that request thousands of dollars in campaign donations should have a greater presence at the event.
The battle over abortion and killing babies might be favoring the pro-life side at the moment, but that can easily change over time, especially as the Left continues to promote anti-life, pro-infanticide propaganda. This is a massive cultural event in which hundreds of thousands of supporters participate, and Republican pro-life politicians should be attending and giving speeches.

Now is not the time to get complacent and rest on the laurels of the recent judicial victory. It’s the time to continue the battle and promote the value of pro-life issues and advance the narratives and agendas that reinforce the importance of saving babies’ lives. And truthfully, Republican politicians should be ashamed of themselves for not having any confirmed speakers.
