Mega Millions jackpot closes in on $1 billion with no Tuesday winner

The multi-state Mega Millions lottery is nearing $1 billion as it went unclaimed Tuesday night.

The lottery jackpot now grows to an estimated $940 million for Friday’s drawing, making it the fourth-largest in U.S. Mega Millions history, according to lottery officials.

The winning numbers drawn for Tuesday’s $785 million jackpot were 25, 29, 33, 41, 44 with the “Mega Ball” number being 18.

Six tickets matching five of the numbers were reportedly sold in Arizona, Maryland, Mississippi, South Dakota, Texas and Virginia with a value of approximately $1 million.

The lottery is played in 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The largest ever U.S. lottery win came in November when a $2.04 billion jackpot ticket was sold in California.
