Climate zealots do not want solutions to the problems they claim are going to kill us all. They just want control of your everyday life, from the car you drive to the food you eat.
Harvard University is no longer continuing its solar geoengineering research experiment. The gist of solar geoengineering is that spraying particles of materials such as calcium carbonate or sulfuric acid in the atmosphere would scatter sunlight and could ease the strain of the sun’s rays on the environment. As sketchy as that sounds on first read, there is a reason the concept was being researched, including the fact that it could lower global warming even if countries such as China continue to refuse to cut their emissions.
Where does the chief opposition to such an experiment come from? According to the MIT Technology Review, “critics argue that even studying the possibility of solar geoengineering eases the societal pressure to cut greenhouse gas emissions.” (Emphasis added.) The experiment was supposed to be tested in Sweden in 2021, but a council that represents indigenous people in the area decried that the project would have “irreversible sociopolitical effects that could compromise the world’s necessary efforts to achieve zero-carbon societies” and that it should not be tested anywhere.
The concern is not slowing or reversing the supposed effects of climate change, it is a concern that such an experiment would, if successful, lead to less political pressure to focus on carbon emissions.
And where does the concern about carbon emissions come from? It would be hard to argue that it comes from climate change, given that China’s ever-increasing emissions erase any progress the U.S. or other countries make. That is even more difficult when Democrats do not even care to pressure China into decreasing emissions, settling instead for noncommittal promises that the Chinese Communist Party never intends to keep.

That focus on carbon emissions is why California Democrats and others are trying to force people into electric vehicles that they do not want. It is why the Biden administration wants to ban gas stoves. It is why Democratic-run areas are shifting to unreliable wind and solar energy for their energy grids and then telling people not to charge the electric cars they are being forced to buy. It is why climate-obsessed Democrats like John Kerry think people shouldn’t be able to fly unless they are rich elitist allies who can buy “offsets,” or why those elitists think you should not be allowed to eat meat.
Climate zealots want control, not solutions. It’s the same reason California Democrats fought against reliable, zero-carbon nuclear energy at the urging of activists. Carbon emissions are the excuse used to determine what kind of kitchen appliances you can own, cars you can drive, or when you can fly, which is why creative research projects like Harvard’s now-shuttered geoengineering project must be tanked to preserve “societal pressure” and its “sociopolitical effects.”
