Gingrich says Haley ‘saying nasty things’ about Trump is not helping her party

.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich argued that 2024 presidential candidate Nikki Haley is not helping the Republican Party in her continued pursuit of the nomination, adding that former President Donald Trump is the nominee.

Gingrich’s comment was made on Tuesday during the Michigan primary election, in which Trump once again bested the former United Nations ambassador. When asked about the results, Gingrich argued that Haley will continue to “alienate” Republican voters as long as she remains in the race, and that he hopes she will suspend her campaign and support Trump’s bid for the White House.

“I do not think it’s helpful to have her out there saying nasty things about the Republican nominee,” Gingrich said on Fox News’s Hannity. “And as far as I’m concerned, Donald Trump tonight is the Republican nominee. This is over and the issue is to focus on the general election, and why Trump would be a dramatically better president in 2025 than Joe Biden.”

The former House speaker’s comment about Haley comes after she claimed that Trump being the Republican nominee for president would be “suicide” for the United States. She has also vowed to stay in the primary race despite her recent losses, citing voters’ “disapproval” of undergoing a rematch between Trump and President Joe Biden.

However, Gingrich cited Haley’s numerous losses as one of the main reasons she should drop her campaign and support Trump, as “no MAGA Republican” would ever support Haley. He pointed to the Nevada primary results, in which Haley lost to the “none of these candidates” category on the ballot.

“When none of these candidates beat you by 2-to-1, there’s a hint that maybe you’re in the wrong game this year,” Gingrich said.

Trump has yet to win the Republican nomination but has consistently bested his opponents in the primary. After Trump won the Iowa caucuses in January by over 50%, Gingrich argued that Trump was the nominee and that his victory was “the people’s victory.”

Amid Haley’s growing defeats to the former president, Joe Cunningham, the chairman and national political director of the third-party group No Labels, stated on Sunday that it would “definitely be interested in” Haley, as “you can’t count her out completely.”
