Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) will run for reelection to her House seat in New York, eyeing a fourth term as several of her progressive Democratic colleagues face primary challenges over their stance on the Israel war.
Ocasio-Cortez announced her reelection bid in a statement on Thursday, confirming plans that were already expected for the New York Democrat despite speculation last year she may be considering a Senate run. Ocasio-Cortez quieted those rumors last year.
The congresswoman announced she would run for another term in the lower chamber to create “a New York where everyone can thrive — not just the 1%.”
“My campaign is part of a movement of everyday working people committed to building a better future for The Bronx and Queens,” she said. “We are in a pivotal moment with so much at stake, and now is not the time to be complacent. We must fight for affordable housing, Medicare for All, reproductive freedom, a bilateral ceasefire in the Middle East, a Green New Deal, millions of good union jobs.”
Ocasio-Cortez is not likely to face a major challenge to her seat as New York’s 14th District is solidly Democratic, and she handily won reelection in 2022 with more than 70% of the vote. Ocasio-Cortez does not currently face a primary challenger, although that could change before the state’s primary elections in early April.

Several of Ocasio-Cortez’s progressive colleagues in the House are facing challenges over their stance on the Israel war, particularly for calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. Ocasio-Cortez has also advocated a ceasefire.
Those who face primary challenges include Reps. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY), Summer Lee (D-PA), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Cori Bush (D-MO), and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI).
