The group of voters who constantly talk about protecting democracy are some of the most egregious when it comes to wanting to subvert it. A new poll revealed that nearly 80% of Democrats think that former President Donald Trump should be removed from the ballot for the 2024 presidential election. It’s the latest example of the Democrats’ desire to usurp authority to retain political power.
A recent survey by Rasmussen Reports revealed that 78% of Democrats “approve of states removing Trump from the 2024 ballot.” The percentage is significantly higher than any other political group identified in the poll, including those who claim to not identify with either party and, of course, Republican voters. The Democrats continue to show they are out of touch with the majority of the wants and desires of the public.
As one might expect, Republican voters strongly disagreed with keeping Trump off the ballot. The Rasmussen survey found that “75% of Republican voters disapprove of keeping Trump off the ballot.” This represents a significant swing in the opposite direction from the sentiments of Democratic voters, as mentioned above. This is not altogether unsurprising, as political tribalism has dominated the nation’s political conversations for quite some time. Republican voters tend to support things that benefit Republicans; Democrats do the same.
However, an important takeaway from the Rasmussen poll was the opinions of independent voters or those respondents who chose not to identify with either major political party. In this demographic, 57% of voters were against keeping Trump off the ballot. This should arguably be a measuring tool for the will of what the public truly wants.

Democratic politicians made a habit in recent years of touting public opinion polls to reinforce why they were pursuing specific political agendas; they should follow that trend and do so here when it comes to Trump’s name on presidential ballots. However, this will not be the case this time around. When it is something that Democrats want to accomplish, and public opinion polls are against them, they ignore the surveys and continue to do what they like anyway. It’s indicative of their true feelings regarding polls. Like everything else, they seek to weaponize them when possible to push their political ambitions and agendas.
Trump’s name deserves to be on the ballot. Democrats should stop their efforts to remove his name. The public has the right to vote for whomever they want to without Democrats interfering in the election process. If more people want to vote for Biden than Trump, Biden will win reelection. But, if more people vote for Trump, he will win a second term. The election process should play out without Democrats trying to implement anti-democratic measures to influence the vote.
