WATCH: Samantha-Jo Roth says Ron DeSantis is GOP’s ‘No. 1 choice’ for 2024

The Washington Examiner’s Samantha-Jo Roth explained the political playing field for 2024 presidential bids, noting that Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is “the No. 1 choice” for Republicans.
While appearing on Fox News’s Your World with Neil Cavuto, Roth told guest host Edward Lawrence that the GOP’s poor showing in November’s midterm elections would increase the number of candidates willing to take on former President Donald Trump.
“The No. 1 choice has got to be Gov. Ron DeSantis. His profile was really high, and that was even before the midterm elections. You know, after the midterm elections, you know, that major victory looking at somebody who was able to lead Miami-Dade — a Republican, that is huge,” Roth said, referencing DeSantis’s appeal beyond his own political party.

Roth also noted that former United Nations Ambassador and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has “a very impressive resume” and could be a top contender for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination. She noted, however, that Mike Pompeo, who many have suggested might run, has not demonstrated fundraising strength, presenting a “challenge for him.”
On the Democratic side, Roth said it is “looking a lot more likely that President Biden is going to be the top choice.”
However, she said that should President Joe Biden choose not to run for reelection, a “big question” will remain, adding that California Gov. Gavin Newsom is a top name but that he “has said that he does not think that he’s going to run for president.”

Recent polling showed that independent voters have lost faith in Biden and would instead look to Trump or DeSantis to lead the nation come 2024.
