Mega Millions reward increases to $640 million after no winner declared Tuesday

Whoever wins the next Mega Millions drawing could be in for a great start to the New Year. The reward for the lucky number is now north of $600 million.

The prize money increased after there was no winner declared Tuesday night, the most recent drawing, when the reward was worth $565 million, making it the sixth-highest reward from Mega Millions.

The winning numbers for Tuesday’s drawing were 9, 13, 36, 59, and 61, and the gold Mega Ball was 11. No one’s ticket matched that, according to a news release from Mega Millions.

The next drawing is scheduled for Dec. 30 at 11 p.m. Eastern time.

The highest Mega Millions reward ever was rewarded on Oct. 23, 2018. A ticket holder in South Carolina took home $1.537 billion. The first time a Mega Millions reward worth over $1 billion was given out was March 30, 2012, and it was shared by three winners in Illinois, Kansas, and Maryland.

The last time the Mega Millions jackpot was won was on Oct. 14. The two winning ticket holders shared a prize worth $502 million.

The second-highest prize given out by Mega Millions occurred earlier this year in July when a ticket worth $1.337 billion was sold in Des Plaines, Illinois. The winning numbers were sold to one person near the Speedy Cafe Speedway gas station. The station also got a prize for selling the winning ticket.
