The 51st annual March for Life occurred on Jan. 19 during a cold wintery snowstorm. Tens of thousands of people eager to protect the lives of the unborn showed up on a frigid winter day in the middle of a snowstorm to march. Men and women, boys and girls, people of all ages braved the conditions to let the country — and the world — know their dedication to halting the extermination of children in the womb. It’s a dedication that should not go unnoticed.
But why keep marching? It’s a question that many people have asked since the Dobbs landmark Supreme Court case in 2022 that overturned Roe v. Wade. The “pro-lifers” achieved their objective and got what they wanted. Why is there a need to keep this tradition alive? The answer: because there is still work to be done, a lot of work.
“The March for Life is more important now than ever because the glass ceiling of Roe is gone, meaning that the sky is the limit in terms of protecting life legislatively,” Kara McKinney, host of Tipping Point on One America News Network.
Mckinney is right. With Roe being tossed to the ashheaps of history, there is no greater time than to continue the fight to protect the lives of children in the womb. That may seem illogical, but the judicial victory against Roe is only as strong, and will last only as long, as the conservative majority in the Supreme Court.
It also represents a time to facilitate a much-needed change in popular culture on how abortion is viewed. Millions of people in the country still view terminating pregnancies as a valid method of birth control with no regard for the life of the child in the womb. Moreover, seeing tens of thousands of supporters each year come together to keep the idea alive that the unborn have a right to life, too, sends a powerful message.
“Cohesion and camaraderie in the pro-life movement continue to fuel onward progress. Especially as the political landscape has changed since the overturning of Roe, it is essential that we unite under truth and find a new boldness to protect unborn lives,” said Christine Dawson, who participated in the 2023 March for Life. “We cannot forsake the importance of coming together, building each other up as we go out into our communities to make a difference.”
However, significant obstacles remain. Ever since the Supreme Court ruled to overturn Roe, Democrats have not been shy about their intentions to do everything possible to reverse the situation. Whether it was putting abortion on the ballot for states to choose its legality, threats of packing the Supreme Court, or efforts to codify a right to terminate the lives of the unborn, the Left had no intention of giving up the political battle for abortion.

At its core, this is why those who fight to protect the lives of the unborn must not give up either.
“With this new horizon comes new challenges, however, as the Biden administration makes it clear that pro-life activists will be raided by the Feds and that it is open season for Antifa-linked domestic terrorists to attack pro-life pregnancy centers,” McKinney said. “Those who still choose to march in the face of these hostilities prove the bravery and courage of the movement in defending all innocent human life from conception to natural death.”
