Adam Kinzinger, former “Republican” congressional representative, made a shocking and eye-popping post on X, formerly Twitter, this week when the notorious Never Trumper criticized Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton after an appearance on Newsmax discussing the border crisis.
“There’s no way that Texas would have joined the Union if that meant that we couldn’t protect ourselves,” Paxton said while commenting on the latest border security issues.
For some reason, this did not sit well with Kinzinger. In his post on X, Kinzinger insulted Paxton and stated that Texas never joined the Union.
“You didn’t join the union,” Kinzinger posted. “You lost the war. Idiot.”
There is a lot to unpack here, the least of which is Kinzinger calling someone an “idiot” while appearing not to know that Texas used to be a sovereign nation. The irony is palpable.
For those who may not know (i.e., Adam Kinzinger), Texas used to be part of Mexico. In 1836, Texas fought a war for independence against Mexico and won. It became the Republic of Texas. This lasted until 1845, when the United States annexed Texas, and it became the 28th state of the Union.
To be fair, it is not entirely clear what Kinzinger meant because he didn’t elaborate or clarify his historical malapropism. It seems he was referencing the aftermath of the U.S. Civil War, in which Texas rejoined the Union after seceding and joining the Confederate States of America. Nevertheless, that was not what Paxton was talking about. It was abundantly clear that Paxton was referring to Texas’s annexation in 1845.

However, fairness aside, it is honestly hard to interpret Kinzinger’s comments any other way other than he did not know the history of Texas — embarrassingly so, given his former profession and the state being his current residence. It raises several questions: How would this be possible? Has he never heard of “The Alamo”? Does he not know that Davy Crockett died fighting in the Texas Revolution? Does he really know what the word “idiot” means?
Kinzinger’s smugness made him look like a fool. He deserves widespread criticism for his error and arrogant condescension while trying to belittle Paxton. In doing so, he demonstrated a lack of class, a despicable attitude, inexplicable politics, and his true colors. Congress is better off without him.
