Send the migrant buses to the rich white liberal suburbs

.

A member of the Naperville, Illinois, city council turned heads this week after he proposed creating a sign-up list for residents to house illegal immigrants who have started to flood the Chicago suburb.

Naperville is only dealing with migrants because Chicago has implemented new requirements in a bid to stop the flow of illegal immigrants Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) has bused from the southern border to Democratic-run cities.

The councilman, Josh McBroom, made the proposal because he opposed using taxpayer funds to house and accommodate illegal immigrants, and he noted that the city has “a lot of big homes.”

Abbott’s busing operation has been wildly successful in forcing other parts of the country that have not been afflicted by the Biden administration’s porous border policies to care about the dangers of illegal immigration. It is arguably the only reason the Biden administration is willing to negotiate with Republicans in Congress on border security.

But as successful as the project has been, the fact that the Naperville city council has been forced to address the migrant matter shows there is so much more potential for forcing communities dominated by Democratic voters to reap the consequences of their desired border policies.

Naperville resides in DuPage and Will counties, which are blue-leaning suburbs of Chicago. In 2020, 58% of voters in DuPage County voted for President Joe Biden, as did 53% in Will County. The median household income in Will County is $103,678, and in DuPage County, it is $107,035, according to the Census Bureau. For context, the Illinois statewide median household income is $78,433.

The people of DuPage and Will counties are from the highly educated and wealthier elite class that has come to dominate the Democratic Party in recent cycles. These are precisely the kind of affluent suburbs that are replete with yard signs saying, “No human is illegal,” yet have no problem with fining neighbors who fail to rake the leaves off of their lawn. And these are some of the most ethnically homogenous communities in the nation.

Abbott should take these affluent suburban liberals at their word and bring the buses full of migrants to them, just as he has done to Chicago, New York City, and Washington, D.C. He has plenty of communities to choose from.

He could send buses to the Washington suburbs of Bethesda, Chevy Chase, or Silver Spring, Maryland. He could send them to the Detroit area to places such as Ferndale and the other affluent but liberal-dominated suburbs of southeast Michigan. The Boston suburbs of Belmont and Cambridge or the Norfolk County communities of Brookline, Needham, or Dover are also attractive options.

Much like the cities already dealing with bused immigrants, none of these country club and college communities are equipped to deal with a massive influx of people. They do not have the infrastructure and the manpower to address the needs of these immigrants, in the same way the communities of El Paso and Eagle Pass, Texas, have been stretched thin by the open border.

If these voters are so concerned about the treatment of illegal immigrants by the “fascist” governor of Texas, then they should have no trouble opening their 4,000-square-foot suburban homes and four cars to those same people and keep Texas’s border infrastructure from being stretched to its limit.
