Anti-American aggression abroad threatens to wreck our supply chains (again), and an 18% increase in prices since Joe Biden took office has slashed real wages by nearly 5%. Yet the most important issue for Republicans who voted in the New Hampshire primary was neither foreign policy nor the blight of “Bidenomics.” Rather, a 41% plurality of Republicans voting in the first-in-the-nation primary prioritized immigration as the most important issue, with just 31% listing the economy as the nation’s most pressing topic.
Although GOP governors have succeeded in alarming urban Yankees to the crisis exploding along the southern border by literally exporting migrants by the busload to so-called sanctuary cities, New Hampshirites aren’t just panicking over the hundred migrants now colonizing Logan Airport across the state border with homeless camps. Rather, Granite State residents are seeing firsthand that following its southern counterpart, northern border security is also deteriorating in real time.
The southern border saw nearly 2.5 million crossings during the last fiscal year, an all-time record and a 40% increase from 2022. But the 189,402 northern border crossings recorded by Border Patrol last year marked a 73% increase from 2022 and an explosion of — sit down and brace yourself — 596.8% from 2021!
So what’s happening? Are terrified truckers simply trying to escape the tyranny of the young Canadian Castro oppressing our friends in the north? Not quite.
Only 37,169, or about one-fifth of the migrants who crossed the northern border, were recorded by CBP as Canadian citizens. A stunning 11,195 migrants hailed from communist China, and another 30,000 came from India. Of the 10,021 illegal arrests along the northern border analyzed by Noticias Telemundo, nearly half came from — wait for it! — Mexico, a 452% increase from the year prior. More than a thousand Indians were arrested in 2023, up from 237 in 2022, and 753 Venezuelans were arrested in 2023, up from five in 2022.

The relatively small Swanton sector of the northern border, which encompasses part of upstate New York, all of Vermont, and New Hampshire, saw nearly 7,000 migrant crossings, a seven-fold increase from 2022 and a 1,797% increase from 2023.
It’s pretty clear what’s happening: After Biden decided to rip up the diplomatic deals that forced South American migrants to apply for asylum in Central America and Central American migrants to apply for asylum to America from Mexico, a bunch of migrants correctly considered our southern border open for business. To deal with the explosion along the South, Border Patrol temporarily recalled a bunch of its northern agents, again giving the green light to a new round of slightly wealthier migrants to fly to Canada and invade through the northern border. New Hampshire residents are correctly livid, and they thusly lined up for Donald Trump.
