A former South Carolina school bus driver is under fire after allegedly pulling a Taser on a group of disruptive and “rowdy” middle school students.
The incident occurred when the female bus driver, whose name was not made public, held up a pink Taser with a flashlight to at least 15 students on a Spartanburg School District 7 route, according to a Tuesday report.
None of the students were injured, and the driver had brandished the Taser in an attempt to get the students of Carver Middle School to quiet down.
It was used as an attempt to “address what she perceived to be a disruptive bus route,” district officials said.
The exact incident that prompted the disruption has not been confirmed, but it was not a fight, and district spokeswoman Beth Lancaster described it as “loud and otherwise unruly behavior.”
“We are disappointed that this driver’s decision to bring an unauthorized deterrent [in this case a Taser] into the presence of students and on school property has created such a disruption for all involved,” a district statement said.
The driver was placed on administrative leave before ultimately resigning, and the incident is a first for her.

“I’ve been doing this 28 years and this is my first time dealing with anything like this,” Spartanburg Superintendent Russell Booker said. “We are going to have contact with our staff regarding Tasers and pepper spray, [and] I am going to use this as a reminder for all of our staff members.”
“It’s unfortunate,” he added. “She made a poor decision.”
