Marco Rubio endorses Trump ahead of 2024 Iowa caucuses

.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) has officially endorsed former President Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election on Sunday, the eve of the Iowa caucuses.

In his endorsement, Rubio cited how he was able to pass legislation that he had been working on “for years” when Trump was previously president, such as expanding the Child Tax Credit. The Florida senator argued that his legislation became policy because Trump “didn’t cave to special interests or let bureaucrats block us.”

“I support Trump because that kind of leadership is the ONLY way we will get the extraordinary actions needed to fix the disaster Biden has created,” Rubio wrote on X, the platform once known as Twitter. “It’s time to get on with the work of beating Biden & saving America!”

Rubio’s endorsement was given on the same day that Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND), a previous 2024 presidential candidate, endorsed Trump. Burgum is the first 2024 Republican candidate to endorse the former president.

The endorsement from Rubio now gives Trump the support of both Florida senators, as Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) endorsed Trump in November.

The Iowa caucuses will begin on Monday and could potentially shift the trajectory of the 2024 Republican primary race. Trump has a major lead in the polling at 48%, with former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley at 20%, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) at 16%, and billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy at 8%.

DeSantis stated Sunday that he intends to stay in the primary race even if he were to place third in the Iowa caucuses. He added that he will be in New Hampshire for a town hall on Tuesday and has other events scheduled in South Carolina and Nevada afterward.
