House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said that federal employees who take part in a planned walkout in protest of the Biden administration’s Israel policy should be fired.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Johnson responded to a story on the planned walkout, expected to take place on Tuesday, by promising to work with House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) to ensure that federal agencies initiate “appropriate disciplinary proceedings” against all participants.
“Any government worker who walks off the job to protest U.S. support for our ally Israel is ignoring their responsibility and abusing the trust of taxpayers. They deserve to be fired,” Johnson said. “Oversight Chairman Comer and I will be working together to ensure that each federal agency initiates appropriate disciplinary proceedings against any person who walks out on their job.”

The planned walkout, organized by a group calling itself Feds United for Peace, told Al-Monitor that it is planned for Tuesday, Jan. 16, marking 101 days since the beginning of the War in Gaza. They claim that employees from 22 different federal agencies, including the Departments of Defense, State, and Homeland Security, will take part.
The organizers said that they are expecting hundreds of employees to participate.
