You know things are bad for a Democrat when he or she is complaining that media coverage is biased against them. You know it’s even worse when that Democrat has no solution to any actual problems and only wants to complain.
President Joe Biden has been whining about media coverage of the economy for several months now, and even the Christmas season hasn’t been enough to lighten his mood. When asked by a reporter about his outlook for the economy next year, Biden answered, “All good. Take a look. Start reporting it the right way.”

Biden’s idea of “the right way” to report on the economy is to dismiss inflation as a problem because the rate of inflation has slowed down, even though prices jumped substantially and are still straining the finances of people across the country, and to credit him with “creating” jobs that already existed but were temporarily eliminated during COVID lockdowns. And yet, average real wages are still lower than they were pre-pandemic and the housing market has become even worse.
Biden’s grand strategy, though, is to bully his political allies in media into reporting on the economy “the right way,” as if that is a magic way to convince people that they are doing better than their bank accounts, work checks, and grocery bills tell them they are. After all, who are you going to believe: some liberal journalist working for NBC telling you that you are doing well, or your wallet telling you that you are worse off than you were five years ago?

And so Biden has turned his attention toward fighting “misinformation” about the economy on social media, as if it is social media convincing people that the economy is doing poorly and not their everyday lives. Biden has insisted that he knows people are better off financially now than they were before he took over, but that the media only likes to report negative stories because they perform better. Biden will do anything except take responsibility for his terrible economic policies, opting to tell people he knows what is best for them and they have no right or reason to be complaining.
Biden is left to hope that former President Donald Trump wins the GOP nomination and remains so disliked that he can limp to reelection. The biggest obstacle to that plan, which is his only possible winning path, is that voters continue to be hammered by “Bidenomics” and the economy, the strongest issue Trump had during his presidency. Biden thinks working the refs, in this case media figures who are already on his side, will change public opinion. It’s all he can do without admitting his own failures, and it is going to lead to a big wake-up call for him at this rate.
