On Wednesday, the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic will hold a hearing into possible reforms for the World Health Organization. The only “reform” that would be effective would be tearing the organization down and starting over.

Subcommittee Chairman Brad Wenstrup (R-OH) has correctly noted that the WHO prioritized political interests, particularly those of the Chinese Communist Party, over its international health duties from the start of the pandemic all the way to now. Wenstrup has two major questions going into the hearing: “Should Americans rely on the WHO when disaster strikes in the future? At this point in time, is it possible for the WHO to be productively reformed?”

SHADOW OF DOUBT: ARE TRUMP CANDIDATES CHANGING THEIR ELECTION DENIAL TUNE HEADING INTO 2024?

The answer to both questions is a resounding “no.” The WHO showed it was unreliable when it froze out Taiwan’s warnings about COVID-19 and accepted the CCP’s talking points about the virus being unable to jump from person to person without question or scrutiny. Taiwan is still sidelined by the WHO out of fear of angering China despite being right about the virus, which should tell you that the WHO prioritizes the feelings of China’s communist dictator and his cronies over, you know, “world health.”

And the WHO cannot be reformed because, like the United Nations of which it is a part, it is rotten to its core. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus rose to his position with the backing of the CCP and has praised dictators from China’s Xi Jinping to Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe, who he made a goodwill ambassador of the organization. And who did Tedros succeed as the director-general of the World Health Organization? Margaret Chan, a Chinese national who praised North Korea’s healthcare system, allied the WHO with Syrian dictator Bashar Assad and prioritized China’s political interests by punishing Taiwan.

The World Health Organization will praise and promote dictators and human rights abusers because that is what the United Nations does. It is a corrupt organization to its core. The only meaningful “reform” would be to abandon it entirely. Pursuing that should be the priority moving forward.
