A Los Angeles homeowner stood his ground Saturday and fatally shot one of the suspects who invaded his home with a grandmother and toddler inside.

Authorities discovered the dead suspect after they responded to a shots fired call around 5 a.m., according to a police report citing a Los Angeles Police Department’s Devonshire patrol.

“When the officers arrived, they met with the homeowner [victim] who stated he was inside his residence when three unknown males broke into his house,” the report said.

“The victim described the males as all wearing dark clothing, hoodies and masks. In fear for his life, the victim retrieved a handgun and fired multiple rounds at the suspects, striking one of them.”

After shooting the suspect, the homeowner chased the remaining invaders out of his home and went after them until they fled in the black BMW sedan they arrived in, police said.

“The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced the suspect who was struck deceased at-scene,” according to the LAPD. “The Operations Valley Bureau Homicide detectives arrived and conducted a preliminary investigation. The victim was interviewed at Devonshire Community Police Station and released.”

When Los Angeles County coroner’s investigators arrived on the scene, they examined the decedent, the report noted.
