Biden is intentionally undermining moral support for Israel

President Joe Biden keeps trying to broadcast his support for Israel, but his desire for political approval from the antisemitic part of his coalition continues to corrupt his judgment.

The most recent example of Biden choosing politics over principle comes from his X account, where he declared that, “To continue down the path of terror, violence, killing, and war is to give Hamas what they seek. We can’t do that.” Basic reading comprehension here would suggest that Biden is, in part, shaming Israel for giving Hamas the “war” that “they seek.” The ludicrous assertion is that fighting Hamas is exactly what Hamas wants, and therefore, Israel should not do that.

THE ADMINISTRATIVE STATE MUST BE BROUGHT UNDER CONTROL

Biden’s team then tried to clean up that mess by claiming that this absurd comment was really about how “we can’t lose hope for peace.” This ridiculous rewriting of Biden’s comments is made even more unbelievable by the fact that this is not the only example of Biden pandering to his antisemitic supporters at the expense of moral clarity on this conflict.

Take, for example, his administration’s decision to create a “National Strategy to Counter Islamophobia” in the aftermath of the Hamas slaughter of some 1,200 Israelis and the surge in antisemitism in the U.S. that followed. That was a decision made purely to pander to the Muslim activists who warned that Biden was being too sympathetic to the dead Jews in Israel and that it would cost him Muslim votes in Michigan.

Or take the groveling apology Biden issued to Muslim activists after he correctly cast doubt on the casualty numbers in Gaza, numbers that are given to the world by Hamas to serve as propaganda and are unreliable. Biden’s administration twice called for a ceasefire immediately after the Hamas massacre of Israelis, effectively telling Israel to take the 1,200 slaughtered civilians and the kidnapping of hostages on the chin and not respond at all.

All of this has been interspersed with Biden offering his full support for Israel and backing its war against Hamas, meaning that he is watering down his own support. You cannot take credit for having moral clarity on this topic while waffling on it and pandering to people who are contradicting that moral clarity. Either Biden’s support for Israel in the aftermath of this terrorist assault against it is insincere, or he is cynically undermining it to try and pander to antisemitic voters he thinks he needs. Either way, it is morally bankrupt.
