Chicago residents can possibly get $500 if they fill out a program application before New Year’s Eve.

The program, titled Chicago Resiliency Fund 2.0, will give up to 25,500 eligible Chicago residents a one-time payment of $500 and is currently accepting applications from households that filed 2019 taxes with claimed dependents who are at least 17. The payment is intended to support people who had trouble qualifying for federal relief payments in 2020, such as COVID-19 relief funds, according to the Heartland Alliance organization.

Applications have been accepted for this program since Oct. 31 and will continue to be accepted until Dec. 31. Recipients will then be selected for this program via a lottery.

The federal poverty level will vary for applicants based on the number of people within their household. For people with one person, the FPL will be $40,770, and for applicants with two people, it will be $54,930, with the amount gradually increasing for every person in a household. For applicants with more than eight people in their household, the amount will be $139,890 plus $4,720 for every person beyond eight.
