MSNBC anchor Jen Psaki took aim at former President Donald Trump and Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) during her show Sunday.

The opening monologue of Inside with Jen Psaki included jabs at the potential partnership between the speaker and Trump, should he win the presidency in 2024. Psaki compared the two, claiming they share the same goals.

“See Mike Johnson and Donald Trump, the leaders of the Republican party both talk about America as this very dark place that needs to be purged of sin and Johnson’s words or purged of vermin you’re talking and Donald Trump‘s words, but those words are really catchalls for anyone who challenges their view of the world,” Psaki said. “Their goals are the same — to root out dissent and the other. It all has the makings of basically an authoritarian meets zealot buddy movie that really no one needs in this country.”

Psaki attempted to analyze the two political figures motivations, alleging that Trump is engaging in “self preservation” and Johnson is pursuing “his biblical calling.”

“If Donald Trump is elected next year, these two men would basically be running the country, so what can we do to stop that from happening? How can Democrats make the argument that Trump and Johnson’s anti-democratic vision of America is not the way forward?”

Later on in the show, a pre-recorded interview with Gov. JB Pritzker (D-IL) aired. Pritzker also raised the red flag against another Trump presidency.

“I repeat it wherever I go that Donald Trump is dangerous for our democracy,” Pritzker said. “I know there are people who are afraid. And that’s exactly what Donald Trump’s hope is — that people will be too afraid to speak out.”

Trump is currently the front runner among the seven total candidates vying for the Republican nomination in 2024. Psaki’s own network NBC conducted a poll between Nov. 10 and 14, reported Trump has 46% of registered voters’ support while President Joe Biden rallied 44%.
