You’re not wrong, you’re evil

An ugly Election Day incident in Arlington, Virginia, captures the blind, sanctimonious aggression of today’s Left. A Republican poll greeter tweeted a video in which he is confronted by a Democrat who lobs a stomach full of self-righteous abuse at him like a clutch of Hamas rockets trying to get through Israel’s Iron Dome. Based on the details of the encounter, like its Middle East analogy, it appears to have been unprovoked.
Twenty-five feet away from his target, the Democrat inveighs, “These people tried to overthrow the election,” and then, arriving, he jabs his finger into the Republican worker’s face and says, “You might as well have been walking up … and putting a gun to my head, trying to tell me not to vote. You expect me to not take that f***ing personally.”
DEMOCRATS SPOOKED AFTER BIDEN SHOCK POLL AND FRET TRUMP WHITE HOUSE COMEBACK
Like a riptide dragging a swimmer out of his depth, the Democrat’s own rhetoric sweeps him away on his theme that Republicans have no moral right in electioneering. Never mind that Virginia chose a Republican governor two years ago. “You f***ing people try to overthrow elections with violence, and then you’re out here among decent people,” the pious lout snarls, presumably regarding himself as one of the decent people he invokes.
“What are your policy prescriptions? F***ing rapist rights? Involving yourself in people’s f***ing families and their f***ing bedrooms. You f***ing animal.” After working himself into a fulminating, f-bombing foam at the nerve of a rival party canvassing near his home, he threatens, “You try to steal my vote next year, I’m going to f***ing remember you personally,” and then, he takes out his phone and snaps a picture of the Republican. The man was flapping around like a door off its hinges.
His self-pitying rage and impotent threat were hardly Shakespearean in scale — not Lear on a blasted heath but a pipsqueak lefty in leafy suburbia. But as ludicrous and trivial as the incident was, it captured that habit of left-wingers to assume they are the benchmark of rectitude against which others must be judged, and to accuse opponents of vile behavior that they themselves are clearly displaying. The only threat came from the Lilliputian Lefty, not the GOP greeter. The “gun to [his] head” was fictional.
Such self-deception is animated by a moral arrogance that convinces lefties that those who disagree with them are not merely wrong and need to be debated but evil and deserving of suppression.
All across the range of political matters, one sees this enraged projection. It is especially vicious among Hamas’s terrorist supporters. Senior politicians and lowly students, coordinated by terrorist-linked organizations, accused Israel of genocide even before Hamas had finished murdering 1,400 innocent civilians for being Jews or living among Jews.

Yet it is the Hamas constitution that literally calls for genocide. And Israel takes more care to avoid civilian casualties than any army in the history of warfare. It drops leaflets and nonexplosive dummy bombs on targets to warn noncombatants to get out of harm’s way.
Whether it’s in today’s world-changing recrudescence of Jew hatred or in the sputterings of a prat in Virginia, one faces an inability or unwillingness to acknowledge disagreement as something to defeat with a persuasive argument. Instead, the “other” is shouted down as unworthy of civilized engagement.
