Mayorkas’s most dishonest performance yet

It’s tough being the face of President Joe Biden’s least popular policy. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has to appear before Congress multiple times a year, where he is always asked if the southern border is secure.

And every time, Mayorkas lies through his teeth and says yes. His lies are so blatant that when he visits Border Patrol agents who know what security was like on the border both before and after Biden became president, Mayorkas tries to lie and say he never claimed the border was secure.

THE KIDS ARE NOT ALL RIGHT

But he has made that claim. Many times. Under oath.

Today, under intense questioning from Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), Mayorkas failed to answer even the most basic question of border security: How many immigrants have crossed into the country illegally since Biden became president? Mayorkas refused to answer.

Here is the exchange:

Johnson: How many people has this administration let in by encountering, processing, dispersing, or that has come in as a known or unknown [and] got away? Approximately. I don’t need an exact number. So, what do we got?

Mayorkas: Senator, let me say …

Johnson: I need numbers. Don’t filibuster me. How many people has this administration let into the country?

Mayorkas: Let me say at the outset that our job would be a lot easier if the broken immigration system was fixed.

Johnson: Mister Secretary, I want a number. How many people have you let into this country?

Mayorkas: I should also comment…

Johnson: I’ll give you the number. It is 6 million.

Now, to be clear, Johnson’s 6 million is an approximate number that includes immigrants Biden has caught illegally crossing the border and released into the United States, immigrants seen but not caught crossing illegally into the U.S., and an approximate number of immigrants who were not detected crossing illegally into the U.S.

All of these totals have skyrocketed since Biden became president.

The immigrants are not coming because life in Venezuela or Cuba or Guatemala suddenly got worse. Life in these countries has been terrible for decades now. No, the only reason immigrants started coming when Biden became president is because he invited them, and he ended the previous administration’s policy of not letting them in.

That is why immigrants are not just coming from Central America. They are coming from South America and India and Africa. Life in these countries and continents didn’t suddenly get worse when Biden became president. Our border policies changed. That’s why the immigrants are coming. That’s why we have a border crisis. That’s why our cities are being destroyed.

And Mayorkas can’t even acknowledge how many immigrants he has let into the country, let alone admit that it is a problem.
