The fruits of ‘woke’ ideology

A recent Harvard/Harris survey conducted after Hamas’s terrorist attack in Israel on Oct. 7 confirms what has become sadly evident over the past few weeks: Younger Americans openly oppose Israel in its efforts to defend its people, and they even support the terrorist organization responsible for the bloodshed in the region.
Nearly half of the younger demographic, aged 18 to 24, said the atrocities Hamas committed against Israelis, including the kidnapping of women and children and the killing of hundreds, were justified. Forty-eight percent explicitly said they support Hamas, not just “the Palestinian people.”

This is a massive moral failure on the part of these students and the adults tasked with forming and educating them. Unfortunately, neither group would agree and would instead argue that these results confirm the success of the leftist framework that has dominated America’s universities for the past several decades.
Under the “woke” system of thought that America’s youth are being brought up in, Israel is not a nation fighting for its survival but an oppressor that has subjected Palestinians to tyranny. Never mind the fact that Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East or that Israel has granted Palestinians the right to be represented by their own government bodies. Never mind that Hamas is a designated terrorist organization and documented its war crimes against Israel’s citizens for the world to see.
This ideology also discounts the historical persecution of the Jewish people by pointing to their skin color and generational wealth. According to the intersectionalists of the Left, Jews are far more privileged than Palestinians simply because they look white and are the ones in charge of Israel.

That’s why it’s easy for students to side against Israel: They’ve been taught to think of the world through a race-based lens in which everyone qualifies as either an “oppressor” or the “oppressed.”
It’s also why we should take very seriously the threats by “woke” ideologues to upend America and its institutions. The United States, in the eyes of the Left, is just as much at fault as Israel. And if they’re willing to support acts of terrorism against a much smaller, less influential nation, what might they be willing to justify here?
