Actress Suzanne Somers died Sunday at the age of 76, following a lengthy battle with cancer.

The Three’s Company actress died early Sunday morning, the day before her 77th birthday, according to her longtime publicist, R. Couri Hay.

“Suzanne Somers passed away peacefully at home in the early morning hours of October 15th. She survived an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years,” Hay said. “Suzanne was surrounded by her loving husband Alan, her son Bruce, and her immediate family.”

Hay’s statement revealed that her family had visited her with the intent of celebrating her birthday on Monday. In the wake of her death, though, Somers’s family will instead “celebrate her extraordinary life.”

The actress got her acting career start in the late 1960s and early 1970s with uncredited roles in various films. Her first credited role came in George Lucas’s American Graffiti, which was released in 1973 and saw her play a “blonde in T-bird.”

Beyond Three’s Company, Somers also had roles in She’s the Sheriff, Step By Step, and Serial Mom.

Somers revealed in 2018 that she was diagnosed with breast cancer for the first time in her 50s. The diagnosis came after she had dealt with skin cancer in her 30s and “two hyperplasia” in her 20s.

The actress had been married to her husband, Hamel, for 46 years prior to her death. Her husband had given her a “handwritten love poem” as an early birthday present before she died, a source told Page Six.
