Another global crisis proves DeSantis is the best alternative to the 2020 retreads

With every passing week and every news cycle, it becomes more and more baffling that we are on track for a 2020 presidential rematch when the top alternative has proven that he is ready for the job.
Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) was one of the first candidates out of the gate with a statement on the Hamas terrorist assault on Israel, even putting out a video statement before President Joe Biden weighed in at all. He then announced that Florida would be rolling out a proposal to expand the ban on the state’s investment in business in Iran to “reinforce Florida’s commitment that we don’t do business with state sponsors of terrorism, such as Iran.”

Now compare that with the two retreads that were already old when they ran in 2020. Biden was invisible for days, enjoying a barbecue while officials tried to tally how many American citizens were also killed and kidnapped in the assault. He then took Monday off, with the White House using that day to focus on junk fees, which Biden then gave a speech about on Wednesday as it was announced that the American death toll in Israel rose to 22.
Former President Donald Trump managed to squeeze Israel into his stale campaign speech routine on Monday after an hour talking about, among other things, DeSantis, the Wall Street Journal, and the New England Patriots. As usual, Trump spends most of his time attacking DeSantis in a primary he insists is already over than on the issue at hand — in this case, Biden, Hamas, and Iran.
The difference in policy is apparent as well. Biden unfroze funds for the Palestinians that his administration knew would likely be redirected to Hamas terrorism and unfroze $6 billion to Hamas-backing Iran. Thus far, he has said he can refreeze that Iranian money but has refused to do so. Meanwhile, while DeSantis is pursuing further sanctions on Iran, Trump is in no position to do such a thing because he lost his last election to Biden.

Why does our choice in 2024 have to be between Biden, who will be 81 years old and who has emboldened terrorists and can’t be bothered to interrupt his weekend barbecue to talk about Americans being killed and kidnapped by terrorists, and Trump, who will be 78 years old and for whom that massacre is an afterthought and who isn’t in power to do anything about it because he lost to the other guy?
Just about any other candidate would prove capable of the job, but DeSantis is still the leading alternative to both men and has regularly delivered on promise after promise as the most successful governor in the country. He will also only be 46 next year, meaning he won’t be out vacationing every week because he is exhausted like the two leading candidates who were born in the 1940s. Decline is a choice, and every national and global issue that arises continues to prove that a 2020 rematch is a choice to embrace decline.
