New York City Democratic Mayor Eric Adams called for a new rule to be established regarding the number of immigrants being sent to his city.

“We can’t have a rule that one can come from anywhere on the globe and come to New York City and remain in New York City as long as they want, and taxpayers must pick up the cost,” Adams told Face the Nation on Sunday.

“This is a $5 billion price tag this fiscal year. $12 billion over three years,” Adams continued. “That money is coming from somewhere. It’s unfair to the migrant seekers, the asylum seekers, and it’s also unfair to everyday taxpayers in New York.”

Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D-IL) has also called for “someone” to stand up and stop Republican lawmakers from sending immigrants “only to blue cities.”

“Someone needs to work in Texas with these border politicians to have them stop sending people only to blue cities!” Pritzker said.

On Friday, Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX) announced that Texas had bused more than 50,000 people who came across the southern border to Democrat-led cities, including New York City, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Denver, and Los Angeles. The busing initiative began in 2022.

Adams said he wants “to send a clear message” to immigrants: “New York is out of room.”

Last week, several hundred immigrants stormed past Mexican border authorities with nothing being done to stop them.

Once inside the U.S., immigrants are typically held by Border Patrol while agents arrange transportation to processing centers, where they are interviewed, fingerprinted, and given the chance to shower and eat.

From there, the immigrants may elect to travel north via Texas-taxpayer-funded transportation.
