Comedian Jay Leno is speaking more about the car fire that landed him in the hospital last month.
Leno was working on one of his vehicles when he suffered serious burns to his hands, face, and chest, forcing him to cancel public appearances.

Now, Leno is talking more about what happened that day.
“It was a 1907 White Steam Car,” Leno told the Today show. “The fuel line was clogged, so I was underneath it and I said, ‘Blow some through the line.’ And then suddenly boom. I got a face full of gas, and then the pilot light jumped and my face caught on fire.”

Despite doctors telling Leno to head to a burn center immediately, he decided to drive home instead.
“My wife doesn’t drive anymore, and I didn’t want her stuck and not knowing what was going on,” Leno said.
The two then headed to the Grossman Burn Center, where he remained a patient for nine days. Leno said his ear had to be remolded and that he also had damage to the sides of his face and hands.

“People were very nice,” Leno told the Today show. “I got wonderful cards and letters.”
Among those who reached out was President Joe Biden, who left Leno a voicemail.
“That was very nice. I said I was surprised he didn’t have more important things to do, but thank you, Mr. President. I appreciate it,” Leno said.
The comedian said that despite the accident, he won’t stop working with cars.
“Did I learn from this? Of course not,” he joked.
