Choice” is hardly in vogue these days on the cultural Left. After all, lots of people will choose the wrong thing, and we can’t allow that.

So NARAL Pro-Choice America (itself a euphemized name for the National Abortion Rights Action League, which was a name created to preserve the group’s relevance after Roe v. Wade) is dropping the word “choice,” following in the footsteps of the House Pro-Choice Caucus.

GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN: WHAT WILL BE OPEN AND WHAT WILL BE CLOSED

The New York Times rollout of this announcement had some interesting insight. Check out this paragraph:

“For abortion rights supporters, the term ‘pro-choice’ — once widely used by Democrats — feels particularly dated in a country where abortion laws are now determined by individual states and jurisdictions, leaders of the group said.”

For these abortion defenders, “choice” is exactly the problem — democracy and pluralism are the enemies here. NARAL, Planned Parenthood, EMILY’s List, and other well-funded entities spent the last few decades defending Roe v. Wade, which was thoroughly antidemocratic.

Letting states, and the public, have a choice about abortion policy is not what the abortion lobby wants.

It’s not just democracy the abortion lobby opposes. It also opposes pregnant women having the choice to get help from pro-life nonprofit groups.

Since Roe v. Wade was overturned, pro-abortion criminals have vandalized the Blue Ridge Pregnancy Center in Lynchburg, Virginia; Mountain Area Pregnancy Services in Asheville, North Carolina; the Lifechoice Pregnancy Center in Winter Haven, Florida; Life Choices in Longmont, Colorado; and plenty of other pro-life pregnancy centers.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) wants the federal government to demolish pro-life pregnancy centers. “We need to shut them down here in Massachusetts, and we need to shut them down all around the country.”

The freedom of conscience is also a “choice” the abortion lobby has no interest in.

The Women’s Health Protection Act, which Democrats passed through the House, strikes down any state laws that would protect the conscience rights of doctors, nurses, or other healthcare providers.

The American Civil Liberties Union is continuing its effort to force Catholic hospitals to perform abortions.

“Choice” was always just a euphemism for abortion. Now, the abortion lobby is dropping that facade.
