
White House labels the looming government shutdown a ‘Republican shutdown’

The White House and fellow Democrats have been branding the looming government shutdown as a “Republican shutdown.”
“This week, as House Republicans’ chaos continues to march us toward an extreme Republican shutdown, we are calling out how a shutdown would damage our communities, economy, and national security. And we’re going to hold extreme House Republicans accountable,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said on Monday.

Jean-Pierre referred to “Republican shutdown” eight times during Monday’s press conference.

Capitol Hill has been intensely negotiating to pass a dozen appropriation bills funding the federal government for another year while the government is preparing to run out of money at midnight on Saturday.
