The Washington Post’s border poison

Not long ago, the Washington Post editors declared Title 42 a “flimsy deterrent” to illegal border crossings. Now they are worried that the end of President Biden’s use of the 1944 public health to set border policy will cause “short-term chaos at the border.”
Apparently, the record migrant deaths and illegal crossings aren’t chaos enough already.
BORDER PATROL OVERRUN WITH 4,500 IN CUSTODY
The Washington Post’s solution to the new “expected surge”? To let more migrants in faster of course. The Post calls “to expand other legal pathways for migrants to enter the country” including a 20,000-a-year visa program for Cubans and a separate program that would admit 24,000 Venezuelans a year from other countries.
Neither of those programs would do anything to slow surging traffic at the border. The Border Patrol is currently arresting over 20,000 Venezuelan migrants a month for illegally crossing the border. A program that lets in 24,000 a year isn’t going to accomplish anything.
The Washington Post also praises a new DHS program that would “quickly identify migrants with plausible claims, and to avoid shoveling thousands more cases into the clogged immigration courts each month.”
But notice what this program would not do: deport those migrants not granted asylum. That’s because the Biden asylum officer plan is a one-way ratchet. The new asylum officers can only grant asylum. Those denied asylum still get their full case heard before an immigration judge which will take years. Biden’s plan will only speed migrant entry into the U.S. It will only make the problem worse.
The Post editors also claim that the amnesty deal brokered by Sens. Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ) and Thom Tillis (R-NC) would “finally put to rest the decade-long debate over dreamers.”
Oh no it wouldn’t. Biden is currently letting in about 300,000 new dreamers every year. What will be the cut off date for those dreamers granted amnesty under Sinema-Tillis plan? What happens to all those minors that enter illegally after that date? Do they also not deserve the exact same amnesty that the other dreamers are getting?
The only way to solve the Biden border crisis is to stop releasing migrants who illegally cross the southern border into the U.S. Until that happens, the crisis will only get worse.
