Alaska was an interesting choice for President Joe Biden to spend the 22nd anniversary of 9/11 on Monday, but then, Biden managed to make it much, much worse with three terrible blunders.

First, in the morning, the White House celebrated an earlier announcement that Saudi Arabia would be committing $20 billion to Biden’s Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment. Now, Saudi Arabia is an important ally, but considering that 15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudi nationals and low-level Saudi officials helped two hijackers, the communication was, at best, tone-deaf.

Then, the Biden administration confirmed it was giving $6 billion and five prisoners to Iran in exchange for five American citizens. Biden’s $6 billion gift to Iran is bad policy on any day since Iran is free to spend that money on its nuclear weapon and rocket programs, but 9/11 is a particularly bad day since Iran will also undoubtedly spend that money on terrorism.

As if those first two choices weren’t bad enough, Biden then capped Monday by lying about being at ground zero on the day after 9/11.

“I join you on this solemn day to renew our sacred vow: Never forget. Never forget. We never forget,” Biden said at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage. “Each of us — each of those precious lives stolen too soon when evil attacked. Ground zero in New York — I remember standing there the next day and looking at the building. And I felt like I was looking through the gates of hell. It looked so devastating because of the way — from where you could stand.”

The problem is Biden wrote in his memoir that he was in Washington, not New York, the day after 9/11, giving a speech to the Senate. Biden did visit ground zero nine days after 9/11, but considering his specific invocation of “Never forget. We never forget,” and then his very specific claim that “I remember standing there the next day,” the lie is particularly egregious.

Did Biden make up this lie thinking no one would fact-check him? Or maybe he is just so old he honestly doesn’t remember the day after 9/11. Either explanation doesn’t speak well of Biden’s capacity to be president.
